Hammers & Strings was a local school community art project based at Marrickville West Primary School in Term 4, 2011. The centrepiece of the project was an old piano that students were involved in transforming into an artwork. In working with the piano and in creating artworks inspired by it, students were encouraged to think about the history of the piano, its sound, form and connection to the school and the community. Workshops were run with a selected group of 15 students over 10 weeks, who focused on creating the “Piano Installation” which was themed “Sky, Land & Water”.

The project ended with an art exhibition on the 1st December 2011, which included works by students, the local community and the final Piano Installation Piece.
